was one of the most popular at our 2006 tasting. The purple-red skinned
fruit have lots of juice and although it is early ripening, it keeps on
cropping throughout the season. The shoulders remain slightly green
even when ripe, making an unusual two-tone effect. Easy to grow as a
cordon in the greenhouse or outdoors. |

Unusual Russian variety from
Siberia that produces large deep red-purple fruit that are very juicy
and have a sweet taste. It is easy to grow and is suitable for growing
as a cordon either outdoors or in a greenhouse. It is early ripening
and has quite thin skin so should be picked as soon as it is ripe. |

Tomato ‘Brandywine’ 75p |

This American heritage variety
was originally grown by the Amish community and has been known since
1885. The beefsteak fruit have dark pinky-red fruit with very little
juice that are ideal for cooking, although they also taste good in
salads. It needs plenty of heat so is only suitable for growing in the
greenhouse but we find it crops reliably. It forms a tall plant and
should be grown as a cordon on a strong support. |

Tomato ‘Broad Ripple Yellow

This American variety is one
of the easiest tomatoes and is ideal for growing outdoors, as it is
tolerant of colder weather and keeps cropping until the first frost of
autumn. Best left without pruning to form a dense mat about 60 cm
across smothered in small, sweet yellow fruit. This 19th
century variety comes originally from Indiana. |

This Italian heirloom
beefsteak variety has large red fruit with pronounced ribbed shoulders.
It has outstanding flavour and is ideal for cooking, particularly
stuffing. It should be grown as a greenhouse cordon. |

Although an old variety, this
is still one of the tastiest red cherry tomatoes with heavy crops of
very sweet fruit that are borne on long trusses. It is suitable for
growing outdoors as well as in the greenhouse. It forms quite a tall
plant and so needs a strong support. |

The pale golden fruit of this
tomato actually do have a slightly furry skin, just like a real peach,
although the fruit is actually pale apricot in colour. The flavour is
excellent and the fruit are very juicy. Suitable for the greenhouse or

This new variety has been bred
especially for growing outside in baskets and containers where it will
tumble over the sides. It produces small pinky-red fruit with a pearly
sheen that taste best when fully ripe. The side shoots are not removed
so the plant forms a bush shape. |

grown since 1896 and produces medium-sized yellow fruit with a sweet
flavour and lots of juice. It is both early ripening and heavy

Unusual American variety with
small but extremely tasty fruit that remain chartreuse green even when
they are ripe. The fruit are extremely tasty with an unusual sweet but
spicy taste, thin skins and few seeds. This variety is best grown in a
greenhouse but can be grown outdoors. It can be grown as a bush, but
does best if grown as a cordon. |

us, this neat little bush variety is ideal for baskets and produces
lemon-yellow fruit the size of a gooseberry that have a sweet flavour
and lots of juice. It does well outdoors and is very easy to grow. The
fruit are resistant to cracking and it was not affected by blight.
Ideal for the beginner or where space is limited. |

This American cordon variety
produces fruit that vary in size from large to very large. They have
orange flesh with an unusual texture rather like a peach and are
particularly juicy. It is excellent for cooking but also good enough to
eat raw. It does best in a greenhouse and needs a strong support. |

exceptionally sweet and tasty red fruit and is one of our favourites.
Grown as a cordon, it produces good crops both in the greenhouse and

greenhouse variety produces huge trusses of sweet yellow fruit the size
of large grapes. Thin skins and small seeds make it excellent for
cooking, particularly chutney making. The plant withstands bad weather

dropping. |

was the favourite at our tomato tasting last year. It has very sweet
red cherry fruit that grow in long trusses and hold well without
cracking or splitting. It should be grown as a cordon, either outdoors

varieties, producing heavy crops of medium-sized red fruit with
excellent taste. It is one of the earliest varieties to crop but
continues over a long season. It crops over a long season and is more
