The RHS AGM trophy symbol - awarded to all AGM plants
* suitable for growing in coastal gardens

Aeonium ‘Zwartkop’ (velvet rose) *      2 litre - £5

This stunning succulent is a real eye catcher with large rosette heads of almost black leaves held aloft on woody stems.  It makes an excellent focal point in a large container.  Established plants develop babies below the main rosette to make an even more impressive sight.  Very drought tolerant and not difficult to over winter if protected from frost.  60 x 30 cm.  Sun and a well-drained soil.

Echium candicans (Pride of Madeira) *      2 litre - £4

This shrubby perennial forms a neat rounded bush that is covered in deep blue flowers in May and June, its rosettes of grey-green leaves remaining attractive when not in bloom.  It can be grown outdoors in sheltered spots in the southwest, but elsewhere it is best grown in a large pot.  180 x 180 cm.  Sun, shelter and well-drained soil.

Fuchsia paniculata (shrubby fuchsia) *       2 litre - £4

This unusual tender fuchsia has clusters of purple flowers that look more like lilac than the more familiar lady’s eardrops.  It flowers from early summer onwards if deadheaded or it can be left to set bunches of small grape-like berries.  It has bold glossy leaves and makes a real focal point in a large container.   120 x 60 cm.   Sun and a well-drained soil.

Fuchsia ‘Thalia’ (honeysuckle fuchsia) *      2 litre - £4

This showy fuchsia has single tubular pink-red blooms throughout the summer as well as velvety purple-tinged foliage.  It needs a sunnier position than most fuchsias and also needs to be brought indoors over winter where it will flower almost all year round if placed on a sunny windowsill.  45 x 45 cm.  Sun and a well-drained soil.

Isoplexis canariensis (Canary island foxglove)   2 litre - £4

Tall spires of vibrant orange foxglove-like flowers from mid-summer onwards make this an eye-catching focal point in a large container, or it can be grown outdoors in a sheltered spot in the southwest.  120 x 80 cm.  Sun or partial shade and a well-drained soil.

Isoplexis sceptrum (Madeira foxglove)   2 litre - £4

Tall spires of large vibrant orange flowers like a giant foxglove are borne from mid-summer onwards above bold green leaves.  It makes an eye-catching focal point in a large container, or it can be grown outdoors in a sheltered spot in the southwest.  120 x 120 cm.  Sun or partial shade and shelter and a well-drained soil.

Salvia leucantha (Mexican sage) *      2 litre - £4

This showy sage makes a stunning focal point in a mild, sheltered garden with its slightly pendent bi-coloured purple and white flowers.  Its grey-green leaves smell of blackcurrant and it has a neat, shrubby habit.  120 x 100 cm.  A sunny sheltered spot and any well-drained soil.

Salvia patens (gentian sage)    2 litre - £4

Spires of hooded royal blue flowers in August to October make this an unusual choice for late summer containers or the border.  It will over winter as a tuber on a well-drained soil in a mild garden.  Alternatively, it is not difficult to over winter in a cool greenhouse.  60 x 45 cm.  Sun and any well drained soil that is not too dry.

Tibouchina urvilleana (Brazilian glory flower) *    2 litre - £4

A stunning focal point in a large container, it also makes a good houseplant with its deep purple flowers from late summer onwards and its large, attractive leaves.  150 x 100 cm.  Sun and a sheltered spot.  Although it comes from Brazil, it is not difficult to over winter if protected from frost.

Trachelium caeruleum (throatwort)     2 litre - £4

Ideal for colour in late summer with heads of frothy purple flowers from July onwards that are ideal for cutting.  It makes an ideal focal point in container but can also be used in the border where it is treated like an annual.  60 x 30 cm.  Sun and a sheltered spot.  Not difficult to over winter if protected from frost.
