Buddleja davidii nanhoensis (butterfly bush)*    3 litre - £5

This dwarf form of the common butterfly bush is far daintier than the species with finer leaves and slimmer purple flower heads.  It is also far less vigorous and thug-like and does not need to be pruned back hard every year.  1.2 x 1.2 metres.  Sun and any well-drained soil.

Buddleja davidii ‘Royal Red’ (butterfly bush)*       3 litre - £5

This particularly attractive form of the butterfly bush is covered in large heads of cerise flowers in July and August.  It has dark green leaves and quite an open habit but does best if pruned hard every spring.  1.8 x 1.8 metres.  Sun and any well-drained soil.

Buddleja davidii ‘White Cloud’ (butterfly bush)*       3 litre - £5

This slim and elegant butterfly bush is covered in masses of small heads of white flowers in July and August.  It has grey-green leaves and quite a slim habit but does best if pruned hard every spring.  1.8 x 1.2 metres. Sun and any well-drained soil.

Buddleja lindleyana (Lindley’s butterfly bush)    3 litre - £5

An elegant butterfly bush that can be grown as a specimen in a large pot or is equally at home in the border.  It bears slender drooping plumes of tubular violet flowers in July to September. 1.0 x 1.0 metres. Sun and any well-drained soil.

Buddleja ‘Lochinch’ (Chinese butterfly bush)*      3 litre - £5

The flowers of this buddleja are particularly attractive to butterflies. ‘Lochinch’ is much neater and less vigorous in habit than the common buddleja and also has delicate purple flowers in July and August and attractive silvery foliage.  1.5 x 1.5 metres.  Sun and any well-drained soil.

Buddleja x weyeriana ‘Sungold’ (golden ball)*      3 litre - £5

This unusual buddleja bears clusters of round orange flowers in July to October and has dark green leaves.  It is quick growing, reaching its mature size within 2-3 years, and so can be grown as a small tree.  2.0 x 2.0 metres.  Sun and any well-drained soil.

Euonymus japonicus ‘Duc d’Anjou Carriere’ (Japanese spindle bush)*   3 litre - £5

This attractive and easy to grow evergreen shrub has green leaves with a central yellow splash and yellow stems and looks good all year round.  Euonymus is tolerant of poor soil and pollution as well as salt spray.  Easy to grow and ideal for coastal gardens.  1.5 x  0.6 metres.  Sun or partial shade, any soil.

Fuchsia ‘Mrs Popple’ (lady’s eardrops)*      3 litre - £5

Although the single red and purple flowers of this hardy fuchsia are not as showy as those of the tender varieties they are just as prolific, smothering the bush from June to the first frosts.  Although the leaves will be killed by cold weather, the woody framework is hardy.  2.0 x 1.5 metres.  Partial shade and any soil that is not too wet or too dry.  Ideal for coastal gardens.

Hypericum ‘Hidcote’ (rose of Sharon)*      3 litre - £4

Red buds and large golden flowers with a ring of prominent stamens cover this neat evergreen shrub in July and August, making a bold contrast with its dark green leaves.  As well as making a neat specimen, it also makes a good hedge.  1.2 x 1.5 metres.  Full sun or partial shade, any soil not too dry.

Lavatera maritima (sea mallow)*     3 litre - £5

This superior relative of the common lavatera has beautiful hibiscus-like lilac and purple flowers from June to September and grey-green leaves.  It needs a warm garden and shelter from cold winds, although it is ideal for sheltered coastal gardens.  1.5 x 1.5 metres.  Sun, shelter and a well-drained soil.

Lonicera nitida ‘Baggesen’s Gold’  (golden shrubby honeysuckle)*       3 litre - £5

Phlomis fruticosa (Jerusalem sage)*      3 litre - £5

This easy-to-grow evergreen shrub bears whorls of golden flowers in May and June above attractive felty foliage. If deadheaded promptly after flowering it will bear a second crop of blooms in August and September if the summer is warm enough.  1.0 x 1.2 metres.  Sun and a well-drained soil.

Phlomis italica (Italian sage)*    3 litre - £5

The furry grey leaves look good all year round and are topped by pink flowers in May to June.  It is best grown with other shrubs or perennials that will support its lax stems.  1.0 x 0.4 metres.  Sun and any well-drained soil.

Phygelius x rectus ‘African Queen’  (Cape fuchsia)*     3 litre - £5

This evergreen shrub is covered in tall spires of red tubular flowers from June until at least September.  It is quite hardy in a sheltered spot where it can even be used to form an unusual hedge.  1.5 x 1.5 metres.  Sun and any well-drained soil.
